Trip itinerary

NOTE: People who have not chosen option “Group flight” start their trip on the second day in and finish on the twenty-ninth day in Bangkok.

Day 1 – London - Bangkok
Travellers meet the Tour Leader at London Airport in the departure hall at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled flight time. Depart from London to Bangkok.

Day 2 - Bangkok - Thailand
Arrive in Bangkok any time. Your Tour Leader arranges the meeting with all participants in the evening (about 5.00pm). It is time to find out all about your trip, the places you will visit and additional activities. You will get to meet the people you will be travelling with. In the evening we head to Khao San Road, the most popular place in Bangkok, where backpackers from all over the world meet up. There we find a unique atmosphere with sights and sounds which entice and seduce. We will be able to relax with a blissful Thai massage, taste freshly prepared meals, drink natural juice prepared from exotic fruits and the braver can enjoy fried scorpions, grasshoppers or cockroaches.

Day 3 - Bangkok - Thailand (B)
After breakfast we take a cycle tour of “Historic Bangkok” where we visit the unique places that are rarely visited by tourists. Historic Bangkok shows the true heart of this bustling city. Cycle the back roads and small laneways to discover that there is more to this city than big roads full of traffic alongside high-rise buildings. We have the opportunity to experience the real life of locals in the capital of Thailand. Crossing the narrow streets of the old town, we discover the monuments, which are often overlooked in the popular guidebooks. In the afternoon we go to Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), where a local guide introduces us to the secrets of Thai culture and Buddhism.

Day 4 - Bangkok - Thailand (B)
In the morning, followed by a walk to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keow where during the 3 hour tour we have the opportunity to enjoy the enchanting beauty of the architectural complex of the Palace, which was built when the capital of Thailand changed from Thonburi to Bangkok. In the afternoon there will be some free time to relax or explore and in the evening we head to the train station, where we take an overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai (approx. 13 hours).

Day 5 - Chiang Mai - Thailand (B)
Accommodation at the hotel. In the afternoon we take a tuk-tuk to one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand - Wat Phra Doi Suthep. Along the way we stop at a vantage point from where we will admire the city skyline. At the temple we visit the shrines of Buddha. Around 3.00pm we take the scenic mountain road back to Chaing Mai. Walking through the old town we visit the temples Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Suan Dok, Wat U-Mong. The evening will be a time for relaxing and leisure. Anyone who still has energy left can go shopping at Night Market, which offers products made by local artisans.

Day 6 - Chiang Mai - Thailand (B)
Day for relaxing or explore on your own. Your Tour Leader can help organise any activities that you would like to do. You can choose: Patara Elephant Farm (Voluntary work at the elephant farm), Flight of the Gibbon (an unforgettable adventure in the jungle), rock climbing, rafting, canoeing, elephant rides, Thai cooking school, massage school and others.

Day 7 - Chiang Rai / Chiang Khong - Thailand (B)
After breakfast we take a bus for the 180 km trip to Chiang Rai (approx 4 hours). Upon arrival we visit the White Temple. In the afternoon we drive to Chiang Khong, a town situated next to the Mekong River. Overnight in Chiang Khong.

Day 8 - Huai Xai / Pakbeng - Laos (B)
Early in the morning we go to the border of Chiang Khong where after a passport check, we travel by traditional long boat across the Mekong River to Huai Xai (Laos). There we take the slow boat for a full day cruising on the majestic waters of the Mekong. Before sunset we reach the small town of Pakbeng, where our hotel awaits us.

Day 9 - Pakbeng / Luang Prabang - Laos (B)
After breakfast at 9.00 am we leave Pakbeng and continue our onward journey by boat to Luang Prabang. Along the way we pass through the small villages located near the river bank where we can observe the daily life of locals. In the late afternoon we arrive at Luang Prabang, a city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the centre of religious life in Laos. In the evening you have free time to rest or take a stroll through the city streets to do some shopping at the local night market, full of beautiful goods and handicrafts.
 
Day 10 - Luang Prabang / Vang Vieng - Laos (B)
Early morning before sunrise we head to observe Alms Ceremony. The monks proceed through the city along the main street collecting alms from local people and tourists. This ancient ritual is a sight to behold and a great opportunity to see this ceremony for those willing to wake up and get out before dawn. After breakfast we drive to the Kuang Si waterfalls, where we enjoy the scenic, multi-level cascade waterfalls. Time for relaxing and swimming in the azure pools. In the afternoon we come back to Luang Prabang, contemplate the array of architectural styles, temples and stunning old French mansion and climb up Mount Phou Si, where we see spectacular views of the city. At about 3.00pm we drive to Vang Vieng.

Days 11/12 - Vang Vieng - Laos (B)
The town of Vang Viend is surrounded by splendid scenery and there are plenty of activities to do such as caving, kayaking and tubing down the river. The stunning limestone mountains that tower over Vang Vieng are mysteried with caves of all kinds. One of the most popular pastimes is to hire an enormous tyre inner tube, be driven a couple of km upstream, flow with the current downstream and enjoy the scenery. Thera are 2 days for relaxing or explore on your own. Your Tour Leader helps organise any activities that you would like to do. 

Day 13 - Vientiane - Laos (B)
In the morning we leave Vang Vieng and take a local songthaew to the capital of Laos, Vientiane. Upon arrival we cycle around the city and visit the National Museum, Patuxai (Gate of Victory) and the temples. In the evening there will be time for relax, leisure and enjoying the taste of food in local restaurants.

Day 14 - Phnom Penh - Cambodia (B)
In the morning we transfer to the international airport in Vientiane, where we fly to Phnom Penh. In the afternoon we take a short bike ride around the city, where we can admire the rich architecture of the capital of Cambodia.

Day 15 - Phnom Penh - Cambodia (B)
During the second day in Phnom Penh we visit the city's many sights, such as the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, National Museum and Killing Fields. We also have time for shopping in the big Russian market with lots of souvenirs and everyday items. In the late afternoon we visit Wat Phnom, a Buddhist temple located on the only hill in town. As the perfect end to the day spent in Phnom Penh you can enjoy cold drinks in one of the many coffee makers that are located along the river at sunset.

Day 16 - Transfer to Siem Reap by Skuon - Cambodia (B)
After breakfast we drive to Siem Reap which is best known for being home to the wonderful Angkor ruins, an extensive World Heritage - listed complex of ancient temples with the magnificent Angkor Wat as the focal point. In the afternoon there will be free time to relax or you can explore on your own and enjoy the local delicious cuisine.

Day 17 - Siem Reap / Angkor complex - Cambodia (B)
In the morning we transfer to the Angkor complex to visit Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmers with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the amazing Bayon temple.  After lunch we visit Angkor Wat, the largest and the most spectacular temple in the world. After sunset we back to the hotel. Time for leisure.

Day 18 - Siem Reap / Ton Le Sap Lake - Cambodia (B)
After breakfast we drive to Ton Le Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the wet season in South East Asia. We take a ride on a small shaded vessel and move between the floating homes and small fish farms to experience the daily lake life of locals. After lunch we visit Ta Keo temple which has a pyramid shape with 5 towers arranged in a quincun and then travel on to Ta Prohm's ruin. Transfer back to Siem Reap.

Day 19 - Bangkok - Thailand (B)
Today we make the journey back to Bangkok by local bus. Travel time from Siem Reap to the border with Thailand is approximately 2.5 hours. Formalities of crossing the border can take up to two hours. After this it will be a 4 hour drive to capital of Thailand. In the evening will be time to relax or enjoy the nightlife.

Day 20 - Bangkok - Thailand (B)
Today will be the last day of your trip and you will have a full day to spend at your leisure, exploring the capital, before  transfer to the airport for your return flight. You will take a direct flight back to London (only travellers who have chosen the "Group Flight" option).

Those who are continuing their onward journey on their own should feel free to leave at any time.
