Days 1 - UK - Shanghai
Travellers meet the Tour Leader at London Airport in the departure hall at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled flight time. Fly overnight to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.
Day 2 - Shanghai (HB)
Shanghai, China's biggest and most prosperous city exudes an atmosphere of vitality and dynamic growth. After breakfast, the sightseeing includes a stroll through the beautiful and famous Yuyuan Gardens located in Anren Jie and through the Old Town. We visit the Shanghai Museum where stylish exhibitions surround visitors with artifacts demonstrating ancient wisdom and philosophy. We also explore the restored Xintiandi area which holds the historical and cultural legacies of the city with its unique 1920's style shikumen buildings.
Day 3 - Shanghai - Suzhou (HB)
Today we travel to the charming city of Suzhou, also known as the 'Oriental Venice'. We visit two of the finest oriental gardens: the Humble Administrator's Gardens and the Garden of the Master of the Nests which both have a high reputation for their tranquil beauty, featured landscapes and architectural splendours and are listed as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. We also enjoy a cruise on the ancient Grand Canal.
Days 4-5 - Suzhou - Hangzhou (HB)
We travel to beautiful Hangzhou, one of the China's former imperial capitals with many famous historical and cultural sites. We explore the local markets and do shopping in exciting and busy environments. We head to Qing He Fang Street, one of the most well-known and historic streets in the city. The next day we visit the Temple of Inspired Seclusion and the Six Harmonies Pagoda which is the one of the best known attractions in Hangzhou City. You can appreciate the majestic appearance of the pagoda as well as the stunning view of the Qiantang River and surrounds. In the afternoon we have a relaxing cruise on the West Lake.
Day 6 - Hangzhou - Wuzhen - Shanghai (HB)
Travel to Wuzhen en-route to Shanghai. Wuzhen is one of China’s ancient water towns, where waterways thread their way through the flagstone streets and alleys. We enjoy a leisurely stroll to absorb the atmosphere of this centuries-old Chinese town. Home to an intricate system of canals, old wooden waterside houses, arch stone bridges, narrow cobblestone streets and an abundance of local handicrafts, Wuzhen is renowned for its old-world charm and picturesque setting. Visit the Taoist Temple, which was the former residence of Mao Dun, a master of contemporary Chinese literature and browse through little stores. Later, return to Shanghai and enjoy a dinner of traditional Shanghai cuisine.
Days 7-8 - Shanghai - Guilin (HB)
We walk along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture consisting of 26 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. We also shop along Nanjing Road. In the evening we enjoy a cruise on Huangpu River. The next day we visit the modern Pudong area before flying to the spectacular city of Guilin.
Days 9-10 - Li River Cruise - Yangshuo - Guilin (B, L, D)
Today we cruise the spectacular Li River to Yangshuo and enjoy the landscape with its beautiful limestone peaks, peaceful fishing scenes and picturesque villages. The next day we explore the multi-coloured local markets before returning to Guilin. We see the traditional spectacle of the cormorant fishermen using cormorants to catch the fish and return them to the boat.
Days 11-12 - Guilin - Kunming (HB)
We visit the colourful 240-meter-long Reed Flute Cave which is a wonderful world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations. In the afternoon we fly to Kunming which is famous for its stunning architecture. The next day we explore the spectacular Stone Forest known as the 'First Wonder of the World'. The stone masterpieces have various strange and steep intricate formations and countless labyrinthine vistas.
Days 13 - Kunming - Chongqing (HB)
Before we transfer to the airport and fly to Chongqing, we visit the Western Hills with its flourishing flowers and dense forest, providing you the perfect environment to enjoy the tranquillity and marvellous scenery. We also head to Dianchi Lake, the biggest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province and the sixth largest one in China.
Days 14-15 - Tongliang - Dazu - Chengdu (HB)
Chongqing attracts visitors from around the world to its many popular tourist attractions. We discover the amazing beauty of Erlin Park, the People's Hall and the General Stilwell Museum which was founded in memory of Joseph Stilwell, an American general who contributed a great deal to the Chinese people. After that we head to the small town of Tongliang. The next day we travel to Dazu to see the fascinating Dazu Rock Carvings - ranked on the list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. We also visit Baodingshan Rock Carving made up of 13 groups of stone carving figures, totaling nearly 10 thousand cliffside figures. Next we travel to Chengdu.
Day 16 - Leshan day tour (HB)
In the morning we travel to Leshan to visit the Grand Buddha, the world's largest stone-carved Buddist statue. We take a short boat trip to view the statue from the river. We return to Chengdu and visit the old town of Huanglongxi en-route.
Days 17-18 - Chengdu - Xian (HB)
Today we visit the best-known and largest Panda Reserve in China at Wolong. You are welcome to adopt a panda through naming it and leaving an accompanying donation. Pandas are national treasures and also goodwill ambassadors. The next day we take a city tour of Chengdu before boarding the overnight train to the former ancient capital, Xian.
Days 19-20 - Xian (HB)
The highlight today is a whole morning excursion to the majestic Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Life size terracotta figures of warriors and horses arranged in battle formations are the star features at the museum. They are replicas of what the imperial guard would have looked like in those days of pomp and vigour. We take a walk along the Ancient City Wall. In the afternoon we visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Great Mosque. If time permits you can explore the nearby Muslim bazaar, where you can buy some souvenirs. A splendid evening is in store when you are entertained by the Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show while partaking of the famous Dumpling Dinner.
Day 21 - Xian - Beijing (HB)
We visit the renowned Shaanxi History Museum which is home to thousands of priceless relics. Since it was opened to the public in 1991, its architectural buildings, internal apparatus and exhibits have made it famous as a first-class museum in China. We also stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter, visit the Great Mosque which is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China. In the evening we board the overnight train to Beijing, China's capital city.
Days 22-23 - Beijing (HB)
We arrive in Beijing and today's sightseeing includes a stroll though Tiannanmen Square which was the front door of the Forbidden City initially built in 1417 during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). The most important use of it in the past was as an arena for the presentation of the new emperor to the common people. Until 1911 when the last feudal kingdom was over, no one could enter the Tower except for the royal family and aristocrats. Next we head to Chairman Mao's Mausoleum and then to the treasure-filled Forbidden City. On the following day we take a walk on the Great Wall and visit the unique Temple of Heaven which was built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty to offer sacrifices to Heaven.
Days 24-25 - Beijing (HB)
Today we go for a tour to the Summer Palace which was constructed in the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), during the succeeding reign of feudal emperors and is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. We enjoy a fascinating Chinese Acrobatic show. The next day we visit the Lama Temple and shop at the bustling markets.
Day 26 Beijing - London, UK
Return flight to London.
